Earlier this year, Level 3 Consultant Kristian Hampson delivered a bespoke Phased Array training course for Israel Electric Corporation (IEC).

Israel Electric Corporation is a government-owned public utility that generates, transmits, and distributes electricity in Israel. With over 13,000 employees, IEC is responsible for meeting the country’s growing energy needs and maintaining a reliable electricity supply. The corporation operates a diverse portfolio of power plants, including natural gas, coal, and renewable energy sources.

Requirements for maintaining a permanent record of inspection data is leading to a greater demand in the utilisation of Phased Array over manual Ultrasonic Testing on powerplants across Israel. Recognising the need to further develop their technicians, IEC contacted our Level 3 Services team to see how we could support them.

Tailoring our training to client requirements

Level 3 Consultant, Kristian Hampson, created a bespoke Phased Array course tailored to the requirements of IEC, in line with SNT-TC-1A 2016, and utilising ASME standards. The candidates sat exams in line with their newly produced written practice. The candidates who sat the exam achieved a 100% pass rate.

The course covered theoretical aspects of PAUT and for the practical utilised the Sonatest Veo3 PAUT equipment, students learned how to:

  • Create setup files for inspection of forgings
  • Create multigroup focal law setups for the inspection of Single and Double V Welds
  • Analyse data of Forgings and Welds looking for multiple types of defects using the Sonatest software UTStudio.

This training will give the technicians the ability to setup, scan and analyse forgings and welds when using the ASME V specifications. The technicians will be able to use multi group conventional phased array techniques.
